GALEX Zodiacal Light Calculator

The GALEX Zodiacal Light Calculator computes the time-varying component of the background due to the sunlight scattered off dust in the ecliptic plane. In contrast, the diffuse galactic light component of the background remains constant throughout the year and is not reported by this tool. The background will be much larger (~1000 times) in the GALEX NUV (1775 Å to 3000 Å) bandpass in comparison to the FUV (1200 Å to 1775 Å). At certain times of the year, the flux from the zodiacal light for each observation will be large enough to pose a threat to the detector safety and prevent that observation from being scheduled by the mission planning system.
